about

Clare O’Riordan Irish singer/songwriter

Following Clare’s 2014 “exquisite debut Shelter” (Colm O’Hare, Hotpress), Clare has been busy writing and recording new music for her upcoming album ‘Outside’ in Brick Hill Studios in Cape Cod, MA, USA with producer Jon Evans (Tori Amos bass and guitar). Experimenting to broaden the scope of her sound was at the heart of this musical journey, both in the recording studio where she looked to capture the energy and passion of a live performance and through the use of her voice. The end result is an impressive collection of new songs best described as a ‘Genre Outlaw’. Sometimes evoking a contemporary flavour and at other times reminiscent of the past, ‘Outside’ is inspired by Clare’s love for real music both old and new. Clare draws skilfully from this broad palette of musical colours, to give voice to her deepest emotions. Her new charity single ‘On the Streets’ ,in support of Cork Simon Community, is due for release on November the 9th 2018.

Clare launched her debut album ‘Shelter’ on the 8th August 2014, in the Crane Lane Theatre Cork. ‘Shelter’ is an effortlessly eclectic offering, fusing elements of jazz, blues and folk recounted with soul. For Clare, the realisation of this independent debut production was a long awaited dream come true.

Clare first began gigging with Cork based band Arundo but later began performing solo in Cork, in particular in The Bodega as a resident artist. Following the release of her debut Album ‘Shelter’ in August 2014, she performed live at select venues throughout Ireland accompanied by guest musicians. To date she has released two singles ‘A World’ and ‘Real Love’ from her new album ‘Outside’ and two singles with videos from her album ‘Shelter’ for her songs ‘Home’ and ‘Angel’ respectively. In her approach to song and songwriting Clare’s influences include many of the greats including Van Morrison, Nina Simone, Luke Kelly, Sinead O’ Connor, Kate Bush and Billie Holiday; however life itself and the people she meets are Clare’s greatest creative inspiration. “It all begins with a feeling, the creative process happens when I’m swept along in a moment and all that exists is the song. I never write with a particular style in mind, the song determines the genre and I experience the song as an entity with its own life-force. The song usually seems to know where it wants to go and I just document it” says Clare.

Clare O’Riordan’s debut album ‘Shelter’ was co-produced by Clare and Donnacha Moynihan, it was recorded and mixed in the Rise Studio in Cork, and was mastered by L.A. based Ruairí O’Flaherty. String arrangements are by Deirdre Moynihan.
