Following her “exquisite debut Shelter” in 2014 (Colm O’Hare, Hot Press 2014), Cork singer/songwriter and pianist Clare O’Riordan recorded her new album Outside in the USA with producer Jon Evans (Tori Amos bassist and guitarist). Clare released her new album Outside on February 21st 2019 with a launch gig in Coughlans Cork. According to Clare, Outside has “soul and grit” reflecting the emotional and social themes addressed in her songs.
On Outside Clare’s deep emotions on the social injustices and inequities of our times are reflected in the cinematic melodies carrying themes of homelessness ‘On the Streets’, the refugee crisis ‘Outside’ and addiction ‘Killer of Love’. Outside also celebrates the power of love and enduring hope in the face of adversity in tracks such ‘Take my Hand’, ‘Glimpse of Love’ and ‘Sailor’. Sometimes evoking a contemporary flavour and at other times reminiscent of the past, Outside is a mixture of soul, light funk, piano based balladry and dark soulful vocals.
Clare first began gigging with Cork based band Arundo but later began performing solo in Cork, in particular in The Bodega as a resident artist. Following the release of her debut Album ‘Shelter’ in August 2014, she performed live at select venues throughout Ireland accompanied by guest musicians. In her approach to song and songwriting Clare’s influences include many of the greats including Van Morrison, Nina Simone, Luke Kelly, Sinead O’Connor, Kate Bush and Billie Holiday.
Clare O’Riordan’s new album Outside was produced, recorded and mixed by Jon Evans, at Brick Hill Studios, Orleans, Massachusetts, USA.The new album was mastered by Michael Romanowski of Coast Mastering, California, USA .
